IUCD in the Urinary Bladder

The USG images show a linear, echogenic structure in the urinary bladder with shadowing. This is very unusual for a calculus and this appearance may suggest a foreign body.

Among other possibilities a migrated IUD is known to present in this manner.

This patient had a history of an IUD insertion 8 years ago. She conceived thrice thereafter and it was assumed that the IUD had been expelled. Surprisingly, this was not picked up on any of the USG studies done during the pregnancies.
